► Summary: Observing that successive reform projects freeze the case law of civil liability instead of carrying it forward, the author draws from it a few principles for a renewed general law, able to face production chains, artificial intelligence and environmental damage. She calls for moving beyond the classification by type of triggering event and the binary opposition between fault-based and strict liability, and for rebalancing the functions of the field in favour of prevention. She defends a general clause of fault-based liability, to be supplemented by a general clause of vigilance, and proposes to replace the notion of risk with that of power: power over things, power over persons, control of the activity of others. She finally returns to causation, the nodal point of liability.
