► English Summary of this article (article written in French, English summary by the Journal of Regulation & Compliance – JoRC): Behind an apparent unity, “banking vigilance” covers a plural body of norms stemming from case law, European professional standards and legal obligations. The authors distinguish in particular the forms of vigilance that derive from the law and serve a general-interest goal – the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing, AMLA standards, the duty of vigilance in sustainability matters – and show how the banker must reconcile sometimes competing requirements: risk control, preservation of public economic order and protection of customers’ interests, in an environment where the banker’s responsibilities keep growing.
